Khalaf Al Habtoor Assistive Technology Resource Center

A specialised centre providing assistive technologies to empower students of determination, promoting inclusion, independence, and equal access to higher education.

The Khalaf Al Habtoor Assistive Technology Resource Center was established at Zayed University in Dubai to support students of determination by providing advanced technological resources tailored to their needs. Officially opened on 10 April 2012, the centre was funded through a generous AED 1 million donation from Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor.

Designed as a modern and inclusive learning facility, the centre offers a wide range of assistive technologies aimed at enhancing both academic performance and personal development. It serves students with visual impairments, hearing loss, and learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ensuring that they can fully participate in university life.

The facility includes specialised tools such as Braille displays, talking dictionaries, adaptive software, and note-taking assistance, alongside printing and IT resources. These tools enable students to overcome barriers to learning, fostering independence, confidence, and self-reliance.

Beyond supporting students, the centre also assists academic staff by enabling them to adapt teaching materials to suit diverse learning needs. This contributes to a more inclusive and equitable educational environment.

The initiative plays a vital role in promoting peace through inclusion and equal opportunity, ensuring that education is accessible to all members of society. It also strengthens the UAE’s commitment to empowering people of determination and integrating them into higher education and the wider community.

The centre’s long-term impact lies in creating a supportive academic ecosystem where every student has the opportunity to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society.
