The Afghan Female Students Scholarship Initiative was launched by Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, in response to the suspension of university education for women in Afghanistan by the Taliban-led government.
Recognising the importance of education as a fundamental human right, Al Habtoor announced his readiness to sponsor and host 100 Afghan female students in Dubai, offering them the opportunity to continue their higher education in a safe and supportive environment. The initiative was implemented in collaboration with relevant government authorities and Dubai University in the United Arab Emirates.
The scholarship program provides comprehensive support to participating students, covering tuition fees, accommodation, residency arrangements, health insurance, and travel expenses. By removing financial and logistical barriers, the initiative ensures that students can fully focus on their academic development and personal growth.
Dubai University welcomed the students and facilitated their integration into academic programs across different disciplines. Upon arrival in the UAE, the students received official and community support as they began their educational journey in August 2023.
The initiative reflects Al Habtoor’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy and his belief that education should not be limited by geography, religion, or political circumstances. By supporting these students, the program aims to empower young Afghan women, provide them with opportunities for intellectual growth, and enable them to contribute positively to their communities in the future.
Beyond providing immediate educational opportunities, the initiative sends a broader message about the importance of protecting access to education and promoting gender equality worldwide.
