The Khalaf Al Habtoor Leadership Centre at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois, was established in 2007 as a lasting academic initiative dedicated to developing future leaders and promoting cross-cultural understanding. Supported by a generous endowment from Khalaf Al Habtoor, the centre reflects a strong commitment to education, dialogue, and international cooperation.
The project formed part of a broader contribution that included the renovation of the historic Whipple Hall, later renamed in recognition of Al Habtoor’s support. It also houses the Paul Findley Congressional Office, honouring the legacy of the former US Congressman and highlighting the importance of political history and public service.
The centre delivers a wide range of academic activities, including leadership lectures, educational programmes, and access to a specialised library focused on leadership studies. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to lead responsibly in an increasingly interconnected world.
Among its key initiatives is an essay competition encouraging students to explore ways to strengthen communication and relations between the West and the Middle East. This reflects the centre’s broader mission to promote dialogue, mutual respect, and peace.
By fostering leadership grounded in justice, equality, and understanding, the centre contributes to shaping a new generation of globally minded leaders capable of bridging cultural divides.
